The title of this text comes from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah:
Woe to those that name evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for mild and lightweight for darkness; who substitute bitter for candy and candy for bitter! (Is 5:20)
Isaiah conveyed this message of God to His folks 2,700 years in the past; and it’s as related as we speak as anytime within the historical past of Christianity. Our society is underneath assault from forces which can be making an attempt to destroy our Judeo-Christian tradition, and they’re doing so underneath the quilt of darkness and confusion. These forces embrace principalities and powers aiding and abetting those that have rejected God and His everlasting reality.
A partial listing of actions prevalent in our society as we speak which can be related to this passage of Isaiah are: (1) abortion, which is the killing of an harmless and helpless preborn life; (2) trans-sexual rights and actions, particularly aimed toward younger youngsters, whereas dad and mom are most frequently stored in the dead of night in regards to the efforts at selling gender confusion; (3) human trafficking of ladies and kids into the intercourse commerce, which is tolerated by (and in some instances fostered by) these in highly effective positions inside our society; (4) the fentanyl epidemic, which at present claims the lives of practically 100,000 Americans every year, the equal of two Vietnam warfare deaths yearly; (5) tolerance (or fostering) of crime, bringing about real-life Gotham Cities, the place the prison factor controls the streets; (6) inflation, mislabeled as financial progress, which reduces wage will increase and impoverishes the decrease and center courses; and (7) indoctrination in our faculty programs, particularly in increased training, which goals to divide and to in the end destroy our Judeo-Christian tradition.
And these are only some. There are many, many others. This isn’t by happenstance.
All of those are symptomatic evils which can be portrayed by many as “good.” Made out to be nice lights of freedom, in fact, these practices are obfuscations and enslavements to darkness. Presented as candy, they produce in a single’s religious palate nice bitterness. Is there any marvel why suicides have elevated so dramatically in our current previous?
What are we to do? The issues seem monumental in scope; it’s sufficient to paralyze the vast majority of good folks. But Americans are resilient.
I feel St. Paul mentioned it greatest; in his letter to the Romans, he sums up the place we’re and what we should do now:
It is the hour now so that you can awaken from sleep. For our salvation is nearer now than once we first believed; the night time is much spent, the day attracts close to. Let us then throw off the works of darkness and placed on the armor of sunshine; allow us to conduct ourselves correctly as within the day, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in promiscuity and licentiousness, not in rivalry or jealousy. But placed on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the needs of the flesh. (Rom 13:11-14)
If one carefully examines the partial listing of actions that I referenced above, then you will notice that all of them have at their root needs of the flesh. And their penalties are inflicting nice pressure on the very material of our nation and of the world at giant.
In my view, we should take to coronary heart these phrases of Paul. I feel a lot of chances are you’ll effectively acknowledge that the night time is certainly far spent within the current hour. If you consider this, then consider what Paul tells us is the required subsequent step: to placed on the armor of sunshine, which is everlasting reality. We can not tolerate the obfuscation of the reality.
An election looms over our nation. Examine the partial listing above and ask your self, are these evils within the eyes of God? If you consider all or most of them to be, then ask your self, the place do the candidates for the U.S. presidency stand on every one?
In my view, this election is crucial and consequential election since that of Abraham Lincoln in 1860. His election led us into the Civil War, fought over slavery—a heinous establishment that denied the fundamental and inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to black Americans solely on the premise of pores and skin coloration.
Today our nice nation faces an much more sinister enemy. I say this as a result of it’s faceless and multifaceted—each bit as evil because the proponents of slavery have been within the 18th and 19th centuries. Its true purpose is to enslave the plenty, to enslave all.
As residents we’ve a civic obligation to vote. Exercise your constitutional proper as a primary and necessary step in placing on that armor of sunshine—God’s everlasting reality! When casting your poll ask your self “What would Jesus do?” Let His knowledge lead you to decide on properly and virtuously.
