In June, the European Court of Justice fined Hungary €200 million for breaking the EU’s asylum legal guidelines and never implementing adjustments to its coverage of detaining and deporting migrants at its borders.
“Hungary is being punished by Brussels with heavy monetary penalties, as a result of we’re defending the borders, whereas different states are urging us to guard the borders, and are even closing their borders themselves,” Orbán mentioned, referring to the effective and Germany’s current choice to quickly introduce tighter controls in any respect its land borders to scale back undocumented migration.
“So it’s clearly not proper — it’s a multitude, it’s a shambles, it’s political chaos: the entire European Commission, the European legislature has created this case,” he added.
Orbán argued that as a substitute of being penalized, Hungary needs to be given monetary assist to guard its borders, referring to Budapest’s announcement Thursday that it was “prepared” to file a lawsuit in opposition to the European Commission.
