Plaintiff denied compensation for decadeslong keep at hospital

The Tokyo District Court on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit filed by a person looking for compensation for his pressured hospitalization at a psychiatric ward, claiming that his decadeslong keep was because of the authorities’s failure to revise its psychological well being care legal guidelines.

Plaintiff Tokio Ito, who’s recognized with schizophrenia, claimed that he suffered emotional harm from being pressured to endure an involuntary hospital keep for what he stated was near 40 years.

In 2020, he filed a lawsuit in opposition to the federal government, arguing that parliament members and well being ministers had didn’t revise legal guidelines and insurance policies associated to psychological well being care and looking for ¥33 million in damages.
