Opposition party Nippon Ishin no Kai elected Osaka Gov. Hirofumi Yoshimura, 49, as its new chief at a party conference in Osaka on Sunday.
Yoshimura, presently co-leader of Nippon Ishin, goals to strengthen the party forward of subsequent summer season’s election for the House of Councilors, the higher chamber of Japan’s parliament, after dropping the final election for the House of Representatives, the decrease chamber, in October this 12 months.
Nippon Ishin held its first management ballot since August 2022. Yoshimura will succeed present chief Nobuyuki Baba, who determined to step down after the Lower House election.
About 26,000 party members who met preset standards, together with lawmakers, participated within the party vote.

The remaining candidates within the party ballot had been Lower House lawmaker Ryuna Kanemura, 45, Lower House member Seiki Soramoto, 60 and Upper House lawmaker Shigefumi Matsuzawa, 66.
