President Emmanuel Macron stated Monday that the French authorities was not concerned within the arrest of Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov.
“The arrest of Telegram’s president on French territory passed off as a part of an ongoing judicial investigation. This is by no means a political choice. It is as much as the judges to resolve,” Macron stated.
Durov was detained Saturday evening after his non-public jet arrived in Paris. The Paris prosecutor has not but communicated the explanations for the arrest of Durov, who based the messaging app in 2013.
In a press release, Telegram stated that its CEO — a Russian-born French-Emirati citizen — had “nothing to cover” and that the corporate abided by EU regulation.
