Jörg Kukies, state secretary within the chancellery, will substitute Christian Lindner as German finance minister after the collapse of the ruling coalition on Wednesday night time, public broadcaster ARD and several other different German retailers reported Thursday morning.
Kukies is seen as certainly one of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s closest advisors and is well-known in Brussels after he served as state secretary for monetary market coverage and European coverage from April 2018 till December 2021.
Previously, Kukies labored for the U.S. funding financial institution Goldman Sachs.
Germany’s three-party coalition, underneath the management of the socialist Scholz, collapsed when he sacked his finance minister from the Free Democratic Party.
Scholz will now lead a minority authorities together with his Social Democrats and the Greens till a confidence movement in his authorities on January 15.
