Japan protests South Korea’s maritime survey close to Takeshima


Japan’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday protested South Korea’s maritime survey close to the Sea of Japan islets of Takeshima, claimed by Japan however managed by South Korea.

According to the ministry, a South Korean survey ship was noticed on the day dropping obvious wires into waters inside Japan’s unique financial zone southwest of the islets.

Hiroyuki Namazu, director-general of the ministry’s Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, lodged a protest by phone the identical day with a senior official on the South Korean Embassy in Tokyo, arguing that the survey was unacceptable and must be stopped instantly.
