Japan avoids commenting on Cleveland-Cliffs CEO’s provocative remark


Japan tried to be the grownup within the room on Tuesday, avoiding making public feedback on Cleveland-Cliffs CEO Lourenco Goncalves’ provocative remarks over Nippon Steel’s takeover bid for U.S. Steel, someday after Goncalves described Japan as “evil.”

“We are conscious of the information reviews, however the authorities want to chorus from commenting on each single assertion made by the administration of single firms,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi informed a daily information convention, dodging questions on the matter.

But Goncalves’ remarks have however shocked many in Tokyo. A senior Foreign Ministry official described them as stunning, saying they couldn’t fairly perceive what Goncalves was speaking about.
