Biden, Trump associates focused by Iranian hackers on WhatsApp, Meta says


Social media big Meta has blamed an Iranian hacker group for makes an attempt to entry the WhatsApp accounts of a sequence of diplomatic and political figures within the United States.

The firm — which runs Facebook and Instagram together with messaging service WhatsApp — mentioned the recognized APT42 group was guilty, including that WhatsApp had suspended a small variety of accounts to counter the hacking try.

“This malicious exercise originated in Iran and tried to focus on people in Israel, Palestine, Iran, the United States and the U.Ok.,” the corporate mentioned in a press release.

Meta mentioned the targets had been politicians and diplomats and included officers “related to the administrations of President Biden and former President Trump.”

The APT42 group, which is also referred to as Mint Sandstorm, has additionally been blamed for earlier hacking makes an attempt by Meta, together with Microsoft and Google.
