Two Georgia National Guard troopers died Wednesday in Iraq in what the U.S. Army says have been unrelated noncombat deaths.

Spc. Travis Jordan Pameni, 23, of Douglasville, died in Baghdad after an incident in one other location, the Army mentioned. Pameni was assigned to the first Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, based mostly in Lawrenceville.

That unit started a mission at an undisclosed location within the Middle East in April.

Spc. Owen James Elliott, 23, of Twin City, died in Baghdad. Elliott was assigned to the first Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment, based mostly in Savannah.

That unit started a Middle East deployment in December, the Georgia National Guard has mentioned, specializing in air protection artillery.

The Army mentioned it is investigating every demise. There’s no proof of foul play, officers mentioned.

“We are deeply saddened by the lack of Specialist Pameni and Specialist Elliott,” mentioned Maj. Gen. Dwayne Wilson, commander and Adjutant General of the Georgia National Guard. “Both of those troopers selflessly served our state and nation. We lengthen our prayers and deepest sympathies to the households and family members of each troopers.”

The Georgia National Guard declined additional remark Saturday.
